Hemp vs. Marijuana: What are the differences?

Hemp is not marijuana, but they do come from the same plant.

When I told my family and friends that I would be selling shirts made from hemp, the responses were comical.  I spent a lot of time explaining that hemp is not marijuana.

So, what's the difference?

HEMP

Hemp is a low-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and low-resin Cannabis Sativa plant.  It is grown mainly for its seeds and fibers.  These plants are grown to spread "up".  It is also known as industrial hemp.  Industrial hemp products that contain less than 0.3% THC can be sold, consumed, and shipped legally.

MARIJUANA

Marijuana is a high CBD, high-THC and high-resin Cannabis Sativa plant.  It is grown for its medicinal and psychotropic properties.  They plants are grown to spread "out" in order to create a fuller plant.  Marijuana can contain up to 14% THC.

Despite coming from the same plant, hemp and marijuana are very different.
